The Romanian Observatory on Homicide Studies and Prevention (ORAPO) is an interdisciplinary research laboratory operating within the Institute of Sociology of the Romanian Academy.

ORAPO brings together a range of nationally and world-renowned specialists from various Romanian institutions and areas of expertise (sociology, psychology, communication).

ORAPO researchers’ expertise lies in the analysis of a wide array of homicides including: homicide, homicide-suicide, femicide, femicide-suicide, filicide, filicide-suicide, child homicide, familicide cases, and media representations of femicide. ORAPO is also supported by internationally recognized specialists for their outstanding research in the field of femicide, crime and communication.

Through its researchers ORAPO is part of international organisations that carry out research activities on homicide, such as: the European Homicide Research Group and the European Observatory on Femicide.
